soon the caterpillar will emerge
who eats all summer long
never stopping for a day
until his self-incarceration
and emergence
as a moth who won’t ever eat a thing
just alive long enough
to reproduce

something’s changing

i dreamt of bleeding hearts poking
through the snow and plumping
tiny heat sources furnaces of
abstract invention and awe
yet instead
of being full of blood they are hollow
inside like the very things
they imitate
