is it new or has it always been here
waiting

i skied across an ohio hillside at
night chased by a white leopard
that didn’t eat me

pictures of locker rooms
in a book i didn’t want to see
on the cover an ocean horror
a girl turning into a fish
in agony
before being swallowed
by a rusty mechanical whale

why am i so upset by this
